Five Favorite Breakfast Spots

Where the Tucson ResortTransportation Team Likes to Eat

Ah, breakfast, everybody’s favorite meal. You have a great breakfast, the whole day seems to go right. Tucson is blessed with having a multitude of great breakfast spots, so by no means does the following list represent the “best,” just some of the favorite places that our team members like to get their day started at.

Poco & Mom's In Tucson, AZ

Morning traffic on Kolb Rd zooms by Poco & Mom’s Restaurant in Tucson

Poco & Mom’s

This Eastside cafe is usually ranked in the top 5 of every “best breakfast” survey published in Tucson. The cuisine here is described as “New Mexican” style cooking, with Hatch chiles a major ingredient of most menu items. Their Hatch red and green chile sauces are some of the best in town, and are available to go. Our favorite breakfast items are the Silver City Breakfast (hash browns with grilled onions, topped with fresh Hatch green chile sauce, melted cheddar and jack cheese, and two eggs any style, along with homemade re-fried beans and flour tortilla ($7.99); and the Chile Verde Omelet (a three egg omelet with green chile & cheddar cheese, smothered in chile verde meat sauce, and served with homemade re-fried beans and flour tortilla ($8.99).

Poco & Mom’s is located at 1060 S Kolb Road (Kolb & 22nd). Hours are 6 am to 9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and 7 am to 2 pm on Sundays. Closed Mondays. (520)325-7044. Outdoor seating is available.

Jerry Bob’s near the Tucson International Airport

Jerry Bob’s is a great place to get some grub after dropping passengers off at Tucson International early in the morning. Located at 2680 E Valencia Road just east of Tucson Blvd, it opens at 5 am. If you go, be prepared to wait for a table between 6:30 am and 9 am, and most of the morning on Saturday and Sunday.

Our faves here are the #1 breakfast special (2 eggs, hash browns, and toast, $1.99) and the Huevos Garcia (similar to Poco & Mom’s Silver City Breakfast), hash browns mixed with peppers, onions, and cheese, covered with salsa, with toast or tortilla, $6.50. An alternative to an egg breakfast is the strawberry waffle smothered with whipped cream at $5.75.

They don’t have a website, but here is the link to Yelp. Phone them at (520) 807-5717.

Le Buzz Caffe

If you prefer scones, cinnamon rolls or croissants along with an espresso drink to an egg breakfast, then we recommend Le Buzz in the Tanque Verde Valley. Long a favorite with bicycle riders who’ve finished their morning rides up the Catalina Highway to Mount Lemmon, Le Buzz is a comfortable bistro that serves some of the best pastries in Tucson. A favorite are the gigantic cinnamon rolls ($3.25). If you want something more substantial, then try the awesome corn, green chile, olive, and pepper jack quiche with sourdough roll and jam ($5.99).

Le Buzz Caffe is at 9121 E Tanque Verde Road, between Walgreen’s and Safeway. Open during the winter from 6 am to 5 pm daily. (520) 749-3903. Weekend mornings are really busy because of returning bicycle riders coming off Mount Lemmon.

Rincon Market

A great place to grab breakfast near the University of Arizona is the Rincon Market, located at 2513 E 6th Street at Tucson Blvd. Try the buffet style Farmers Breakfast, offered M-F between 7 am and 10:30 am.

Rincon Market in Tucson

The Farmer’s Breakfast at Rincon Market in Tucson

The Farmer’s Breakfast ($5.99) includes eggs, potatoes, bacon or turkey sausage, biscuits and gravy, and fresh cut fruit salad. And on Saturday and Sunday, they serve waffles, cook-to-order omelets, and Eggs Benedict (Sunday only). And the pastries and desserts! We have been known to have a slice of their chocolate cake for breakfast occasionally, or the red velvet cupcake.

Rincon Market hours are M-F 7 am – 9 pm, Saturday 7 am – 8 pm and Sunday 8 am – 8pm. (520) 327-6653.

The Happy Rooster

This is a great breakfast joint that gets very little press in Tucson. It’s a comfy place that is diner-ish in feel, with a friendly wait staff and generous portions. You can’t go wrong ordering anything here. It’s one of those places where it can be tough to make a decision on what to eat. If you want healthy, then this probably isn’t the place for you – grits, gravy, and other heart attack inducing items rule the menu. Quirky farm murals decorate the interior, and you’ll find traditional roadside cafe gift items at the register.

The Happy Rooster is located at 1114 S Sarnoff Drive and 22nd Street on the Eastside. Like a lot of Tucson restaurants, they have no website, so here is their Yelp page. (520) 298-1752.
